[Bounty Proposal] PhalaVision - Bridging the Governance Information Gap

Short description: PhalaVision is a content and research program that transforms complex governance discussions into accessible formats to increase participation and awareness within the Phala community.

Context of the bounty

PYOR is an analytics and research firm specializing in governance communication, established in 2022. Our team brings expertise in translating complex governance structures into accessible content formats for broader community engagement.

Our motivation for proposing PhalaVision stems from observing the information gap between governance forums and the broader community across multiple blockchain ecosystems. We have no conflicts of interest or association with any governing bodies within the Phala Network.

We have successfully implemented similar content programs for other DAOs, including comprehensive governance explainers for Compound, Arbitrum, and other major protocols. These projects demonstrate our ability to transform technical governance concepts into engaging, informative content.

Problem statement

There exists a significant information gap between governance activities happening within Phala forums and community platforms where most PHA holders spend their time. Many token holders remain unaware of key governance proposals, technical developments, and protocol updates simply because they don’t regularly check governance forums or participate in community calls.

This information vacuum leads to:

  1. Lower participation rates in governance voting
  2. Reduced awareness of important protocol decisions and updates
  3. A knowledge gap between highly engaged community members and casual token holders
  4. Missed opportunities for token holders to contribute to governance decisions that impact the future of Phala

Proposal Objective/solution

PhalaVision aims to bridge this information gap by creating high-quality governance content that makes complex topics accessible to the broader Phala community. The program’s success will be measured by:

  1. Creation of 6 main governance explainer videos (2 per month for 3 months)
  2. Production of 12 short-form content pieces optimized for social sharing (4 per month for 3 months)
  3. Development of 3 comprehensive monthly research reports (1 per month for 3 months)

Our solution involves creating a consistent stream of governance-focused content in multiple formats, ensuring that critical information about Phala’s development and governance reaches token holders wherever they are most active.

How does this proposal change the current logic in Phala?

Currently, governance information in Phala is primarily shared through formal channels such as the governance forum, GitHub, and occasional community calls. This creates a high barrier to entry for casual token holders who may not regularly check these platforms.

PhalaVision would create a new information flow that transforms these formal discussions into more digestible formats, making governance more accessible and increasing the potential for broader community participation. Rather than changing the governance mechanisms themselves, this proposal enhances how governance information is communicated to the community.

Who does this solution help?

This solution primarily benefits:

  1. Casual PHA token holders who want to stay informed but don’t regularly check governance forums
  2. New community members trying to understand Phala’s governance structure
  3. The broader Phala ecosystem by potentially increasing informed participation in governance
  4. Core contributors and developers by amplifying awareness of their work and proposals

  • Future outlook and important upcoming votes

Accompanying Social Posts (4 per month):

  • Supplementary social posts to amplify the research report findings
  • Strategic posting schedule to maximize visibility across Phala community channels

Why Phala?

We’ve chosen to propose this project for Phala because:

  1. Phala’s innovative approach to confidential computing represents a complex technical value proposition that benefits from clear, accessible explanation
  2. The growing Phala ecosystem, including Khala Network and various applications, creates a need for cohesive governance communication
  3. Phala’s community shows strong engagement but could benefit from more accessible governance content to bring more token holders into the governance process
  4. The treasury funding mechanism provides a sustainable way to support high-quality governance communication

Why is our proposal different from others?

While there may have been content-creation proposals in the past, PhalaVision is differentiated by:

  1. Our specific focus on governance education rather than general marketing
  2. Our expertise in translating complex governance mechanisms into accessible formats
  3. Our multi-format approach that combines in-depth explainers with short-form content
  4. Our integration of substantive research elements alongside content creation
  5. Our track record of successful implementation with other major DeFi protocols

Comments, Qs&As

We welcome any questions or feedback from the Phala community and will update this section with relevant discussions as they occur.

How did we get to know about the Phala on-chain treasury?

We became familiar with Phala’s on-chain treasury through our research into innovative governance mechanisms across the blockchain ecosystem. We’ve been following Phala’s development and were particularly impressed by the transparent treasury management system and the community’s commitment to funding initiatives that bring value to the ecosystem. After reviewing previous successful proposals and the guidelines for submission, we felt that PhalaVision would be a valuable addition to the ecosystem that aligns with the treasury’s goals of supporting projects that enhance the Phala Network.

Proof of Work:

  • Compound v3 Deep Dive: This comprehensive explainer breaks down Compound v3’s evolution, architecture, and significance to DeFi lending. The video demonstrates our ability to translate complex protocol mechanics into accessible content for both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Arbitrum Governance Guide: This governance-focused video explores the Arbitrum DAO structure, operations, and participation methods. It showcases our expertise in breaking down governance systems into understandable components with clear guidance for community members.

  • EigenLayer & Restaking Explained: This educational video breaks down restaking and EigenLayer’s revolutionary approach, covering staking fundamentals, EigenLayer’s three trust pillars, and key advantages. The video demonstrates our ability to transform complex blockchain concepts into accessible, engaging content.

  • Linea Rollup Analysis: This research report examines Ethereum’s fastest-growing zkRollup, highlighting our capacity to track emerging technologies and explain their technical differentiators and market positioning in accessible terms.

Unlike general content creators, we specialize in governance education and bring deep expertise in both the technical aspects of decentralized protocols and effective social media communication. We’re ready to deliver immediate value to the Phala ecosystem by bridging this critical information gap.

Trial Run Offer

Before full implementation, PYOR is prepared to create a sample video based on recent Phala governance activities at no cost. This would allow the Phala community to evaluate our approach, gauge interest, and determine the utility of video content for governance communication. Feedback from this trial would inform our final content strategy if the proposal is approved.

Questions for the Community

  1. Is there interest in funding a 3-month pilot of PhalaVision?
  2. Which aspects of Phala governance would you most like to see covered in video format?
  3. Are there specific changes or additions to the content plan that would make this initiative more valuable?
  4. Would a trial video be helpful before making a decision?

I appreciate any feedback, questions, or suggestions the community might have!

It’s been a few days since we posted our initial proposal, just wanted to follow up to check in with the community. We’re eager to refine our pitch based on community input so we can better align with the DAO’s goals and needs. Even brief thoughts or questions would be incredibly valuable at this stage and would help us understand if:

  1. There are aspects of our proposal that need clarification
  2. The idea aligns with current community priorities
  3. There are specific modifications that would make the proposal more valuable to the community

We’re committed to contributing positively to this ecosystem and believe our proposal offers genuine value, but we want to ensure it meets the actual needs of the community.
